My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
When I was six years old, my parents brought home a new puppy. He was part beagle, mostly mutt, and he was adopted from a shelter that was going to euthanize him soon.
I named him Flicky, because he would flick his tail from side to side, and he was my best friend.
Flicky was a playful pooch, we used to have a blast in the backyard, throwing around an old, slobber filled tennis ball.
Flicky had those perfect puppy eyes, all sorts of emotion pouring out of them, insisting you gave him a bite off your plate during dinner. He got his way a lot because of those beautiful brown orbs.
I trained Flicky to fetch, roll over, jump over things, and even how to stand on his hind legs for a few hilarious seconds.
On occasion, I would bring Flicky to show and tell, just so I could spend more time with him while I was at school.
Flicky had a bark like a beagle, more of a howl than a wolf, and he had those floppy beagle ears that would almost trip him as he ran to greet me when I came home.
There is no bond more powerful than that of a boy, and his doggy best pal.
But, Flicky was sick. We had no idea at the time, but Flicky had a bone disease that was causing his bones to weaken, and become brittle. When he was finally diagnosed, the vet told us Flicky would eventually be unable to walk.Â
His bone disease would slowly cripple him, causing massive amounts of pain. He would break legs trying to do the smallest of tasks, like jumping on my bed to sleep at my feet.
Then, one fateful day, Flicky was run down by a pickup truck right before my eyes. I remember the look of panic that flashed across his eyes as he realized what was happening. Those beautiful brown eyes asking me for help that I couldn't possibly provide.
That entire story is a lie. And that is exactly how I felt while listening to My Chemical Romance. Every emotion that was being conveyed was a complete lie.
The Black Parade is an album that is meant to evoke emotion, but ultimately makes you feel like you just listened to someone telling you about their dead dog that never existed. Lied to and ripped off.
